Ellis wins "Best Fillet Frame" at 2014 NAHBS in Charlotte
Dave loves showing off unpainted frames - be they lugged or fillet brazed. Here's what he had to say about this bike:
I had been toying with the idea of building a fatbike for several years, especially after seeing my friends riding theirs with huge smiles on their faces! With the new wider hubs and symmetrical rear ends, it made the fixturing and alignment processes much less daunting, so I made the leap. I don't do lots of fillet bikes, but I do enjoy building them and the super clean look of a well-done fillet brazed bike.
Patrick Brady - one of the NAHBS judges - had this to say:
When I think back on the very best fillet bikes I’ve ever seen, only a handful of those have been naked. Of those, this frame was an easy peer. Put another way, this is among the finest fillet frames I’ve seen in my life....
This Neve Fatbike features:
- HED Big Deal carbon clinchers
- 45Nrth Hüsker Dü tubeless tires
- SRAM XX1 drivetrain with 10-42 cassette and grip-shift
- 44 mm inset head tube with Salsa fork with tapered steerer
- Total weight for this XL bike (Dave's 6'4") is 26 pounds
SLX, I knew that he wanted a classic, but show-stopping paint scheme. After much consultation with my painter, Jason Sanchez, they came up with this stunner.
All the details on this frame are painted on, no decals are used at all. Look closely and you'll see the tiny chainring motif
that Jason created for the white head
tube and panels and then subtly highlighted with a pearl clear coat.
